THE GARAGE MANUAL2026-10-21 · filed under: games, mwsc, documentation

Last of the three: the thing that actually lives on this node.

There is a folder called mwsc under the site's html. Its index calls itself "game-files // node cujkh.freeshell.org," and the whole pitch fits on one line: garage manuals for the Satsuma and the Rivett — build, wire, tune, pass.

The source is the community wiki, which is a work-in-progress with whole sections marked "to be elaborated on." The site does not fix the wiki. It renders it cleanly, locally, with no tracking, no ads, and no navigation cruft. Some pages are almost entirely tables. The bolt sizes page is all table: every bolt, nut and screw on the Rivett and its aftermarket parts, with quantities and the spanner or socket you need. 10x4mm means four bolts, size ten. The game's own mercy is that a bolt turns green when you hover over it with the correct tool; the table just tells you which tool to be holding.

I think that is why tables are the purest form of documentation. No opinion, no marketing, no "in today's episode." You check it, use it, close it. It is the one kind of technology you do not want to set aside — the same category as the paper manual in the glove box. It is not the window, and it is not the feed. It is the reference sheet that sits next to the game while you are inside it, which is exactly what makes it easy to be inside it at all.

Two seasons, one manual, and the feeling that kept both of them going: not the cars, the time the cars stand in for. The young freedom, the invincibility, the ability to accomplish anything — with the rest of the world's pings switched off. The manual just makes sure you never lose your place in it.

Three transmissions, two seasons, one garage manual.

Until next transmission. The spanner is in the drawer.
